Exciting Announcement: DIR Full-Day Programme for Children with Unique Learning Needs (Mongkok East)

We are delighted to introduce our first DIR full-day programme tailored specifically for children with unique learning needs, launching in February 2025. Conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Mongkok East MTR station, our programme offers a holistic, individualised approach to learning that respects each child’s unique profile.

Who Is This Programme For?

Our DIR programme is designed for children aged 5 to 12 years who require an alternative to traditional behavioral approaches. It is particularly beneficial for families awaiting primary school placements, providing a nurturing environment that promotes emotional, social, and developmental growth.

Our Educational Philosophy

At TCC, we believe that all children have the right to access education in the way that makes the most sense for them. There is no single method, approach, or philosophy that works for every child. Each student has an individual and unique profile that determines their learning style. Our programme focuses on enhancing Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities (FEDCs) using the DIR model as its foundation. We integrate the Hong Kong Primary School curriculum to ensure that our learning experiences are both engaging and relevant.

Key Features of Our Programme

  • Individualised Support: We maintain a strong teacher-to-student ratio, offering weekly one-on-one occupational therapy and speech and language therapy tailored to each child’s needs.
  • Small Group Instruction: Our small group sizes (maximum 1:3 or 1:4 staff-to-student ratio, depending on learning levels) ensure personalized attention and effective learning.
  • Strengths-Based Approach: Our educators and therapists utilize multi-sensory teaching techniques and evidence-based curricula to celebrate and build upon each child’s strengths.
  • Enriched Learning Environment: Our facilities are designed to be sensory-friendly and supportive, encouraging children to thrive both academically and socially.

Focus Areas of Our Curriculum

Our activities are crafted to strengthen sensory-affect-motor development, as we believe that all learning and behavior are rooted in emotional experiences. Key focus areas include:

  1. Sensory-Affect-Motor Development: Activities designed to enhance sensory processing and motor skills, fostering emotional connections to learning.

  2. Critical Thinking: Our curriculum emphasizes thinking activities that encourage children to explore concepts and develop critical thinking abilities, nurturing their natural curiosity.

  3. Creative and Independent Thinking: We provide environments that inspire children to view themselves as creative and spontaneous thinkers, cultivating habits of independent thought.

  4. Positive Self-Image: We aim to develop a positive self-image in each child, reinforcing their sense of identity and confidence through supportive interactions.

  5. Social Cooperation and Moral Responsibility: Collaborative activities foster social skills and instill a sense of moral responsibility among peers.

  6. Appreciation of the Environment: Children develop an appreciation for people, objects, and events in their surroundings, enhancing their understanding of the world around them.

  7. Fundamental Skills Development: Our curriculum supports the mastery of essential skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic, laying a strong academic foundation.

Our Approach to Learning

We emphasise that our programme is more about the process and journey than it is about the outcomes. Developing foundational skills helps solidify any gaps and strengthens a child’s self-esteem. It is our responsibility to support each student’s unique profile to maximize their access to the educational curriculum, ensuring that they can learn in a way that resonates with them.
