Children with sensory-processing difficulties have specific sensory needs that can negatively impact their attention and the quality of their learning in a classroom. Sensory processing or sensory integration refers to our ability to organise and respond to information that comes in through the senses.
The Attention & Sensory Group uses various visual and auditory activities along with sensory-motor activities to focus on improving the following:
– Regulation and processing incoming sensory input.
– Sustained attention (ability to remain on task).
– Selective attention (ability to remain on task with distractions).
– Alternating attention (ability to shift focus of attention between different tasks).
– Divided attention (ability to respond simultaneously to multiple tasks – highest level of attention).
– Sitting tolerance.
– Turn taking.
